Participants may register and participate for each event separately, but for selected fields (cat 1/2, 3, 4 and 5 men; Cat 1/2, 3 and 4 women; Juniors 15-18; and Masters 30+/40+), we will be scoring the ominium by calculating the results from the Page Valley Road Race and the Luray Criterium on a simple point system in each field based on final results, the KOM competition for the road race, and premes for the criterium.  Additional omnium points will be awarded for winners of Showdown @ Shenandoah Speedway.  Results from the 35+ 3/4 race in the road race will not count towards the omnium scoring.  BAR points are earned for the individual events only.  Full details can be found in the technical guide.  For more information, contact Chris at gouldchris@netzero.com.  Race day contact number: 202-365-0186.

Showdown @ Shenandoah Speedway, August 5

Staging Area: Located immediately north of Shenandoah on Highway 340

Google Maps location: 9754 US Hwy 340, Shenandoah, VA

Course Description:  “Open up” your legs prior to Tour of Page County weekend “where the mountain roars” at the Shenandoah Valley’s own stock car race track in southern Page County!  Shenandoah Speedway is an oval-shaped 3/8 mile track with compound banking of 12, 10, 8, and 6 degrees in turns 60 feet wide, and straights with 6 degrees of banking.  This unique event combines your geared bikes with a taste of track racing.  Races begin at 2:00 PM, and each field will participate in the order below in a Points race followed by a Miss-and-Out race (see USA Cycling Rules 2M and 2E, respectively, for more details), except for the Cat 5 field, which will have a simple Scratch race instead of Miss-and-Out (USA Cycling Rule 2C).  The top three finishers in each category will receive additional points in the Tour of Page County omnium, regardless of which field the racer is entered in for the Page Valley Road Race and the Luray Criterium (for multiple finishes, only the top finish will be counted for additional points).  Further details may be found in the technical guide.

*Juniors 15-18 field is open to all categories of juniors racers.  Masters 35+/45+ field open to Cat. 1-4 only.  Distance for each discrete event; making a combined total of 32 laps; adjustments may be made to the Miss-and-Out race based on field size.

Page Valley Road Race, August 6

MABRA and VACA Senior Championship Road Race

Staging Area:  Hawksbill Recreation Park, 326 Hawksbill Park Road, Stanley, VA

Course Description: Our course has become a yearly classic on the road racing calendar! Page Valley Road Race is an eleven-mile loop with two major climbs: a 1.5 mile climb starting gently and then ramping up; and 3/4 mile climb to the finish line, which is 8.3 miles from the start. Page Valley is the historic section of the Shenandoah Valley which lies in between Massanutten Mountain to the West and the Blue Ridge to the East. A full description of the course can be found in the technical guide.
*All racers will be run together for one cash prize list, but scored separately for their respective association championships.  VACA 30+/40+ and MABRA 35+/45+ Masters will run together, but will be scored separately for association BAR competitions.  Masters races open to Cat 1-4 only.  Women’s VACA and MABRA Cat 1-2-3 run together, but Cat 1-2 and 3 scored separately for association championships and cash prize lists.  Master 3/4 race is a stand-alone event, and will not be scored as part of the Tour of Page County omnium.  Juniors 15-18 field is open to all juniors categories.  A locally hand-crafted trophy will be awarded to the first place winner of each omnium category.  Other prizes (such as the traditional homemade fruit pie for the first place road race winner) may be issued for each category at the promoter’s discretion, but will be announced in advance.

Luray Criterium, August 7

Staging Area: West Main Street, Luray, VA

Course Description:  It wouldn’t be Page County without a hill – last year’s course returns!  This is a 0.8 mile loop featuring eight 90-degree turns and a steep short climb to the finish.  It’s a technical course that will not necessarily favor the sprinters alone. A full description can be found in the technical guide.
